THE STATEMENT OF THE EMBASSY OF THE ISLAMIC REPUBLIC OF IRAN IN VIENNA ABOUT IRAN’S INHERENT RIGHT TO SELF-DEFENCE ON 14TH APRIL 2024

On the 14th of April 2024, the armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran executed military operations targeting Israeli military installations. This action was a response to Israel's persistent military aggressions, notably the armed attack on the Iranian embassy and diplomatic premises in Damascus on the 1st of April 2024. This criminal act tragically resulted in the loss of Iranian military advisors who were present in Syria at the invitation of the Syrian government. Iran has been subjected to numerous unlawful acts by Israel, including the targeted assassination of Iranian scientists and deliberate sabotage of its nuclear and military programs. Despite these provocations, the international community, particularly the United Nations Security Council, has failed in its obligation to uphold global peace and security, allowing Israel to repeatedly flout international law with impunity. Consequently, Iran found it imperative to defend itself.

 

Iran's defensive actions, executed within the bounds of its right to self-defense, underscore its unwavering commitment to regional and international peace and security. This commitment is especially significant given Israel's ongoing genocidal campaign against the Palestinian people and its belligerent military activities in the region, which have only served to further destabilize the area.

 

In reiterating its stance against further military provocations by the Israeli regime, the Islamic Republic of Iran underscores its steadfast commitment to safeguarding its people, national security, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. Iran stands prepared to respond resolutely and within the framework of international law to any threat or act of aggression. Moreover, Iran emphasizes its readiness to take additional defensive measures as required to safeguard its legitimate interests against any form of military aggression or use of force.

It is imperative for nations that cherish freedom and peace to confront and dismantle the influence of the Zionist lobby and regime. The international community must urgently impose sanctions and penalties on the Zionist criminals. It is time to hold the Zionist regime of Israel and its leaders accountable and put an end to their impunity.
